Housing need in Tanzania

Access to affordable housing remains a challenge for many people

The housing need in Tanzania is estimated to be 3 million units with an annual increase of 200,000 units (Shelter Afrique).

Taking these factors into consideration, the housing deficit in urban Tanzania is estimated to be 1.2 million units, of which 36% are in Dar Es Salaam.

We build affordable homes and help low & middle income families -usually excluded from traditional loans – to access housing finance to purchase a safe, decent home.

We partner with local microfinance institutions to provide nonprofits loans and help families improve their homes over time. Making them safer for everyone.

WaSH

Nearly 39% of the population have limited access to safe drinking water. We fight the spread of waterborne diseases by boring holes and teaching about hygiene and sanitation.

Advocacy

We help individuals and communities to be informed of their land and property rights, raise awareness of land reforms for women and youth, sexual and gender-based violence.

We also work increasingly in disaster response and creating livelihoods for youth and women.
